Pr’ Popr renovations - bottom floor

It’s been a while since we’ve posted anything on our blog here - and we feel like it’s time to start it back up again.

We have slowly been renovating the Pr’ Popr house, floor by floor, room by room. This off-season we decided it’s time to replace the old windows in the bottom floor of the house, and replace the garage doors with a sliding glass door.

We started off by removing some material around the windows so we could remove the frame.

After a couple hours of drilling and hammering with a demolition hammer we got all the windows out, and the holes were enlarged enough for the new windows to be installed.

Where the garage door use to be, we added some hydro insulation to avoid any problems with water and moisture.

We ordered windows from a Slovenian manufacturer, who arrived to install them once we had prepared everything. After the installation, we needed to remove some additional material from the interior. This process was quite stressful, as we were concerned about damaging the newly installed windows with the demolition hammer. After completing that task, we began patching the sides and smoothing out the surfaces. Simona prefers softer corners and a more organic look, so we rounded off the edges and intentionally left the surface a bit bumpy and uneven.

The sliding glass doors made a huge difference to the feel of the room. It feels more spacious and open, while also allowing more natural sunlight inside. The whole room will be easier to keep warm now that everything is properly sealing, unlike the old garage door. We also painted the walls (that had never been repainted), which makes the room brighter.

Some trim pieces are still missing, but all the dirty, dusty work is now done, so the rest can wait a bit. Now we have to hurry up and clean everything before guests arrive!

We are really happy with the overall result. Until now the room was almost unusable in the winter, as nothing was sealing and the room doesn’t have any radiators in it. Now it heats up with the rest of the house, making it usable even without having heating elements directly in it. And with that, another big step in renovating the house has been mostly finished. Thank you for reading!
